Beginnings & Inspiration

I am a 21 year old Art Student and Artist from Newcastle living and Studying in York at York St John University.

The first realisation of my works occured during my Foundation Diploma Year at Newcastle College, specialising in Fine Art.

Since then I have experimented pushing myself with concept and materials and trying to establsh connections between both.

There are no limitations where themes or materials are concerned in the artworks I make, however the work is mostly based on inspiring and provoking viewers thoughts.

Work is made through relationships between materials and human beings, each personal and individual. Personal experiences and notions are drawn upon, and then these thoughts are then presented through contemporary materials, creating pieces which every viewer could connect to. Making personal work is not dileberate, but any work made always becomes special and personal to me. I like to provoke thoughts in the viewers of my work, and make them apply these notions to their own life and experiences, allowing them to reflect and understand things from a different point of view.

I think my work is easy to connect to, for people of all ages and walks of life.

Nature is a reoccuring theme within my work because it is something that is constantly present within the world, and is sometimes over-looked. I like to think of nature as human, and a lot of my work stems from that relationship. I also like to include text in the form of lyrics or poems which inspire and provoke emotion, as well as using mixed-media and different skills to display ideas and themes.

I have seen works by artists, listened to music, and experienced myself- things even such as the every-day life, which inspires me to fully embrace creativity and its flow. I aim to show this through my art, and hope that it may one day inspire something within someone, just the same.
